As a Catholic School founded in the tradition of the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart our aim is to foster a learning community underpinned by Christian values. The ongoing development of each young person spiritually, academically, socially, physically and emotionally is of paramount importance to all of our staff.

To be successful in our vocation as educators we recognise and endeavour to build upon the foundation that each child brings from home. This is best achieved when parents and carers work in partnership with teachers and teacher assistants to actively support their child’s learning. As such, you are invited to participate in school life in any of the many opportunities available including classroom support, religious celebrations, excursions, sporting carnivals, canteen and joining the School Council.

Our year level groupings are designed to maximise student and teacher
interaction by providing two teachers in each classroom for the majority of key learning time. This not only permits increased observation of learning but also assists in the development of targeted teaching through professional discussions between teachers.

We sincerely hope that you will consider sending your child to St Joseph’s School where every child is welcome and valued as a creation in the image of God.

Principal’s Welcome

At St Joseph’s Culcairn we acknowledge the Wiradjuri people as the traditional custodians of the country on which our school stands.

A warm welcome to St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School. Founded by the Josephite Sisters we follow in the pioneering footsteps of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop as we strive to develop the whole child within a Christian context.

As educators, we are here to support parents and caregivers in progressing the learning journey already begun in the home. Therefore, our staff are dedicated to delivering a high quality and evidenced based T eaching and Learning environment where each child has the opportunity to grow spiritually, academically, socially and emotionally. Being part of a rural community our school is committed to building and maintaining local partnerships in order to cultivate a wider sense of belonging.

Kind Regards,

Josh Gaynor
Principal

Our History

As a community of learners, St Joseph’s Primary School acknowledges that 'Christ is the foundation of the whole educational enterprise in a Catholic School'

The school is located in rural NSW and is 55 km north of Albury. Many of the school families are generational farmers of crops, cattle and sheep.

St Joseph’s Primary School wasfirst opened in 1926 by the sisters of St Joseph. The first sisters: Austine Doyle, Evangelist Duggan, Gonzaga Cuffe, Gertrude Lennon and Concerpta Gallagher arrived to open the school for 60 pupils. Strenuous efforts were made, mostly to raise money to build a convent and ultimately a school building. The school continues to strive for excellence in all areas, all while fostering the strong beliefs and values of the sisters of St Joseph.
